Happy Valentine’s Day!

(Sorry, it is a day late. Yesterday was tough for me.)
But please don’t tell PanKwake because this year she is not getting a Valentine’s Day party with her friends. The house just is NOT organized enough.
One of the biggest myths about Home Ed that I shall address more completely at some point in the next 91 days is that these poor children are lonely, isolated and lack socialization.
Nothing could be further from the truth…at least in PanKwake’s case. In fact, her social skills are some of the best of anyone on the autistic spectrum. Because I have always gone to the extreme of providing her with opportunities and guidance on how to make friends…and the chance to do so from…
- Almost daily trips to the park during good weather…
- Sticking close to her to prevent bullying…
- Teaching her to advocate for herself…explaining epilepsy, autism and speech issues to other children…and adults…
- Taking her to museums…
- Theme parks…
- Visiting friends…
- Having an open door policy with our friends…
- …and of course THOSE parties…Valentine’s…and Easter…and Fourth of July…Halloween…Thanksgiving…Christmas…and her birthday. Loads of foods, special decorations, and all her friends.

Those parties tick lots of home ed boxes…not just socialization but planning, organizing and maths too as she counts out the goody bags.
