Happy April’s Fools Day!
At #HomeCrazzyHome it is an international holiday on par with Christmas and Halloween.
I mean when it common place to wake up to water gun fights and hidden coffee…how do you top that?

Does this give you any idea?!?!
Yes, I bought Cookie a giant penguin onesie that I saw at a charity shop. Penguins and trains are a couple of his things. So I am walking down the street and I see THIS hanging in the window. I raced into the shop and bought it. It is a bit short but fits fine otherwise. Now why would anyone donate a NEW and unused giant penguin costume to a charity shop? What were they thinking?
If that were not bad enough PanKwake had hidden my coffee. AGAIN! Common enough in this household. But not this morning. Not only did she hide my coffee…she hid ALL of the coffee. The spares on the top shelf of the pantry too. And it gets worse. When she told me where to look…all I found was EMPTY jars! It took me awhile to finally find some of the granules. And even then…she kept dropping her plastic cock roaches in my cup. Like that was going to stop me from my first cup in the morning! Heck, I’d chew and eat live ones if they got in my cup.
And while I was searching all over PinkTopia (PanKwake’s room) for my coffee, these two were having their usual water fight. Even though she has never seen the movie…only YouTube videos of people imitating it…she does a mean…
Say hello to my little friend!
Now what the heck does any of this have to do with home education, you ask?
It falls under that…and any additional (special) needs.
You see for many on the autistic spectrum…sarcasm, jokes and puns are difficult to understand. I remember the very first time at a bus stop in London two or three years ago. She was sitting in her buggy and I said something. She turned to me and asked…Was that sarcastic? Since then PanKwake has come a long way to understanding the nuances of it.
As for practical jokes…well many with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) love them. Hiding keys and phones. Or in our case coffee. Although the other day, she took the key to the door between the kitchen and utility room/pantry. Normally I just go with the flow and play along…but that was the ONLY key. And it is an ancient lock. The electrician said it was the only time in the whole six weeks they were here that I got mad. I did not get ‘mad’ but I did speak louder than usual and was quite firm with her…a rarity. But she coughed it up…when I reminded her that her waffles were on the other side of that door.
Sometimes I think how amazing it would be to have hidden cams around the house or do a reality TV show…Life on the Rainbow Spectrum. Yes, we still have the occasional meltdown. Yes, my daughter will ALWAYS be autistic. She will always struggle with sensory overload. Have trouble reading facial expressions. And retreat in demand avoidance when things get too tough. But you know what…everything considered…
I would not have it any other way.
I love our #HomeCrazzyHome. Even with all the noise and dust these past few weeks.
I love this amazing man that Fate and the goddess gave me and PanKwake. A man who just laughs and fires back when she wakes him with a water gun. A man who will joke and kid her…just to teach her when other people are making fun of her (a kinder, gentler introduction to a harsh reality). A man who will actually WEAR that darned penguin onesie.
I love my autistic daughter with PDA. I love her quirky sense of humor. I love her determination. I love her mind. I love her spirit. Heck, I love Pathological Demand Avoidance.
I love our life! Even on April Fool’s Day…off to see what else these two have gotten up to. After all it is not even 10 in the morning. Loads more of jokes to come. Think I might need another cup of coffee…cock roaches and all.
