Today is pancake day. Not to be confused with @PanKwake, because it’s her day everyday in our @HomeCrazzyHome.
So, I thought I would take this opportunity to explain why we call her @PanKwake.
First of all, that is NOT her real name.
We don’t use her real name online. Not since she was very young. When you are dealing with a vulnerable person, their safety and security is paramount. Yes, even above and beyond likes and follows.
In fact, for a long time I did not even post recognizable photos of her. Body shots, back of the head, or blurry images only.
She was the one that made the decision to show her face online. She wants/ed to be a YouTuber. And that meant showing her face. Or so she chose.
How did she get the name @PanKwake anyway?
She loves YouTube. Since she discovered it when she was five or six, she watches hours upon hours of it. Some educational, some entertaining, and some just silly.
One of her early favorites was iHasCupquake. She was her hero and what she wanted to be when she grew up. When she wanted accounts of her own, she wanted to be iHasCupquakeJr. It took me a bit of effort to explain about copyright and online etiquette. Eventually, what got through to her was that if she had a little girl one that was what Cupquake might want to call her (at least online).
But still she wanted something similar. Since pancakes is one of her few approved foods, I suggested PanQuake (taken) but PanKwake was not. And so @PanKwake was born. And yes, she does have her own YouTube channel. Though she has not made a video in awhile.
I have begged her to update some of the home ed videos for this #100DaysOfHomeEd, but don’t count on it.

So, that’s how she came to have the name @PanKwake. Just one more thing, I am an advocate of the United Nations Convention on the Right of the Child.
Article 36 (other forms of exploitation)
UN Convention – Rights of the Child
Governments must protect children from all other forms of exploitation, for example the exploitation of children for political activities, by the media or for medical research.
It’s the media part that I’m talking about. Please know that all photos, videos, and much of the content posted on this blog is @PanKwake approved. In fact, one of my pet peeves are ‘autism parents’ who go online to whine, bitch, and moan about their child. I want to… (***breathe deeply***)
We do these things in an effort to educate others about the neurodivergence, home education, and self-directed learning. My primary target is those ‘autism parents.’ Before they do lasting damage to their little humans. And much of what passes as advice from the schools, ‘experts,’ family, and society in general can do lasting damage to the mental health of not only the autistic but all of us. That’s why there is so much anger and animosity between those ‘autism parents’ and the #ActuallyAutistic community.
Hmmm…but now that I have brought up the UN CRC maybe that would be a good topic for tomorrow’s blog?
And yes, she still likes pancakes. She had one today.
